Otis Redding - Dictionary of Soul Thursday, September 01, 2011

Kanye's "Otis" is clearly genius. I had to post this.. "Try a Little Tenderness" is the Otis sample...I'm still floored by this beat.

Growing Pains and other TV Themes Saturday, August 20, 2011
Ha ha ha ha haaaaaaa! (j/k). It's got some pretty good, sampleable spots. Jaisu could make this record into gold. If you're at least 30 years old, this record will make sense. There are some good, although sparce 80's rock guitars that could be flipped into ill beats. Don't sleep, CHALLENGE YO SELF!

Chubby Checker - Chequred! Saturday, August 20, 2011

this is fucking FIRE! Chubby Checker, the kind of records I typically avoid put out this pop-psychish joint in 1973. It's guitars, raw organ samples and "gospel screamer" vocals. I haven't had time to go through all of this, but DO NOT SLEEP!

The Kids From The Brady Bunch BREAKS!!! Sunday, July 10, 2011

another respected digger put me on to this record..basic novelty record that prolly had terrible sales in context, but there is one song, "Drummer Man" with an incredible drum break in the beginning. Very SICK! The rest of the record is, eh. But the 12$ I spent on it is well worth the drums. Enjoy.

MPC Series - Novation Bass Station / Roland Juno 106 Sunday, July 10, 2011

Bass/Synth Sounds as WAV files. I know this may not mean much for some software users, but I'm all hardware, so this was a Godsend because I knew that I wouldn't have to hunt down a Novation Bass Station or Roland Juno 106 for the sounds to add to my growing studio (and shrinking apartment). Very nice bass and synth sounds to dump into your MPC.

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On REMASTERED Monday, June 27, 2011
I just found this cd at a thrift store digging...this 2001 remastered version of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" is INSANE. I never really regarded Marvin Gaye's music as sample material because most of his stuff was that Motown "soul-dance-pop" style of music that wasn't dangerous enough for me. But this particular album has instrumentals, unreleased joints, live dialogue and there is even a version of "What's Going On" with just strings and rhythm. So, DON'T SLEEP..there is a lot of sample material here.
